Biography
Miha Bukleski is a full professor at the Institute of Chemistry. He began his academic career in 2007, when he was engaged as a part time teaching assistant at the Institute of Chemistry while in his fourth year of studies in Applied Chemistry. He was appointed as a young teaching assistant in August 2012, and became an assistant in 2014. He was elected as a full professor in 2025. During the 2010/2011 academic year, he taught chemistry at the high school “Rade Jovchevski – Korchagin” in Skopje, where he also completed his secondary education. He was born in Skopje in 1986. He completed his undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral studies at the Institute of Chemistry under the mentorship of Professor Dr. Vladimir Ivanovski. His bachelor and master’s theses were in the field of reflection infrared spectroscopy, while in his doctoral dissertation he used spectroscopic techniques as tools for characterizing surface modifications. The dissertation was the result of his participation and research within a project supported by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, led by prof. Ivanovski. In 2021/2022, he had a postdoctoral research stay at Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia, within the research group of professor Martin Putala.
His teaching activity is in the field of physical chemistry. As a demonstrator and later as an assistant, he conducted laboratory and numerical exercises in almost all departments, starting from “Methods of Chemical Experimentation,” through general courses in “Inorganic Chemistry,” to “Qualitative and Quantitative Chemical Analysis.” Currently, he teaches “Safety and Protocol in the Laboratory” and “Industrial Chemistry” for chemistry major students at the Institute of Chemistry, as well as “Analytical and Instrumental Chemistry” for biology major students at the Institute of Biology. He has also taught numerical and theoretical exercises in “Structure of Atoms and Molecules” and “Crystalochemistry.” With the support from the Humboldt Foundation, together with prof. Ivanovski, he established a laboratory for surface modification and work under inert conditions at the Institute of Chemistry. He is actively involved in organizing chemistry competitions for high schools and ifor 11 years he was in charge of the preparation of the Macedonian team of students participating at international Olympiads. He contributes significantly to the popularization of chemistry through participation and organization of numerous chemical shows, open days, science fairs, and other science-popular events.
His scientific interests are in the field of vibrational spectroscopy, surface modification, and synthesis under inert conditions. In recent years, he has been working on the synthesis and investigation of hybrid organic inorganic perovskite materials. To date, he has published 28 papers, many of which appeared in impact-factor journals. Some of his published articles are educational papers, reflecting his interest in the educational process and experimentation as a tool for successful teaching. As a young researcher, he was involved in four international projects, which enabled numerous research stays, particularly at the Faculty of Chemistry and Mineralogy at Leipzig University in Germany. He has participated in many congresses, both domestic and international, presenting his results through poster and oral presentations.
Miha Bukleski is the recipient of an award for outstanding results during his first year of studies at the Institute of Chemistry, granted by the “Dr. Dimche Toshev” Foundation in 2005. In 2009, he received the award for best graduate student of 2008 at the Institute of Chemistry and the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, with an average grade of 10.00, awarded by “Ss. Cyril and Methodius University” in Skopje. He has participated in three conferences within COST actions, as well as four workshops supported by the DAAD organization. He has delivered several invited lectures at universities in the region, including two at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, and at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at the University of Niš, Serbia.
