Course objectives (competences):
Introduction to basics of cytology and histology .

Course content:
Cytology: Cell theory; Cell as the basic unit of living organisms; Methods in cell research; Chemistry of the cell; Morphological and structural organization of eukaryotic cells; Cytoplasm; Growth and differentiation of the cell; Cell motility; Cellular transport; Cellular energy and respiration; Cell synthesis; Life processes (cellular metabolism); Cell division (cellular reproduction); Reproduction in animals; Aging and cell death; Pathological changes in the cell; Evolution of the cell.
Histology: Epithelial tissue; Supportive tissue; Peripheral blood; Skin; Digestive system, Respiratory system, Urinary system; Circulatory system; Nervous system.
Embryology: Types of mature ovum; Ovum shells; Ovulation; Fertilization; Embryonic development; Types of corrugation; Gastrulation, Embryonic development of sea urchin from zygote to larva; Embryonic development in Amphibia (gastrulation and organogenesis in a frog).
Plant tissues: Meristems, Permanent tissues, Parenchymal tissues (basic tissues), Mechanical tissues, Conductive tissues, Secretory tissues (secretory and excretory tissues), Plant organs, Plant reproduction.
