Course objectives (competences):
Introduction to the basics of nutrition science and nutrients (types of nutrients, their availability, intake, and absorption in the body), mechanisms of action, as well as physiological and some social and economic aspects of nutrition. Development of generic competencies such as: ability to analyze and synthesize, ability to communicate in the native language, ability to identify and solve problems, ability to work in teams and independently.

Course content:
Concept of nutritionism. Nutrition and health. Basic components of nutrition. Carbohydrates. Proteins. Fats. Vitamins. Trace elements. Antioxidants. Phytochemicals. Microbiota (intestinal flora) and its importance. Inflammation in the body. Life cycle - nutrients in the body. Dietary guidelines for a healthy life. Food packaging labels and their significance.
