Course objectives (competences):
The main goal is to gain knowledge of geochemistry and some basic geochemical parameters with special focus on crystal chemistry, crystal physics as well as the phenomena of twinning, color and some basic optical properties of the minerals.

Course content:
Lectures: Introduction to geochemistry, trace elements, radioactive and stable isotopes, nuclear structure. Organic geochemistry.
Introduction to mineralogy, crystalography, projections, twinning, chemical analysis, study of minerals, origin of the color, optical mineralogy.
Definition and classification of minerals: sulfides, oxides, hydroxides, carbonates, nitrates, borates, sulfates,chromates, tungstates molybdates, phosphates, arsenates, vanadates, silicates (nesosilicates, sorosilicates, cyclosilicates, inosilicates, phylosilicates, tectosilicates). Mineral determination in respect to their physical properties.
