Course objectives (competences):
The aim of this subject is for the student to solidify their understanding of organic chemistry. The material develops the theoretical foundations of modern organic chemistry, which is why in the course, the student will become acquainted in detail with the theoretical aspects of organic reactions and the mechanisms by which they are carried out.

Course content:
Chemical bonds, representation of structural formulas, atomic orbitals, hybridization. Huckel's method, semi-empirical methods. Method of valence bond resonance. Molecular mechanics calculations method. Graph theory in chemistry. Theories of acids and bases (Arrhenius-Ostwald, solvent theory, proton theory, electronic theory). Classification of organic reactions (types, reaction mechanism, reaction kinetics). Electronic effects (inductive effect, mesomeric and electromeric effect, hyperconjugation, electronic influences). Determination of electrophilic and nucleophilic character of reactions, kinetically and thermodynamically controlled reactions, assessment of chemical reactivity. Theoretical methods for modeling biologically relevant systems.
